Expert Panel to Probe Jal Jeevan Mission Shortcomings

Minister D. Sudhakar directs formation of a committee to investigate delays and quality issues in district drinking water projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Planning and Statistics Minister and District In-charge D. Sudhakar has directed Deputy Commissioner T. Venkatesh to form an expert committee to investigate complaints regarding inadequate implementation of drinking water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scheme in the district, with a report expected within three months. He made the announcement while chairing the ongoing KDP quarterly progress review meeting at the Zilla Panchayat hall on Monday.

Despite two years since initiation, many JJM works remain incomplete, with several projects stalled midway. Concerns have been raised over the use of poor-quality pipeline materials and the failure to restore roads after excavation, drawing public criticism. During the meeting, MLA Dr. M. Chandrappa emphasized that if any malpractice is found in the execution of the works, the responsible officers should bear the losses.

MLA T. Raghumurthy stressed that the investigative committee should thoroughly visit each village to assess the actual situation before submitting its report at the next KDP meeting. MLA B.G. Govindappa also supported the investigation.

Deputy Commissioner T. Venkatesh stated that the committee would be led by the District Urban Development Cell Engineer, who will oversee the detailed inquiry into the JJM projects to ensure accountability and proper execution.
