Congress leader Priyank Kharge raised sharp questions on the Central government’s policies, foreign visits, and economic claims while addressing a public interaction in Kalaburagi. He questioned the effectiveness of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign trips and the outcomes derived from them.

Kharge stated that more than ₹ 850 crore has reportedly been spent on the Prime Minister’s foreign visits. He asked what long-term benefits India has received from these visits, apart from what he termed self-proclaimed global recognition. He also questioned claims of “Vishwaguru” status and asked whether any country has significantly benefited India in the long run through such engagements.

Criticising the slogan of “Atmanirbhar Bharat,” he said there is a need to assess whether the country truly possesses sufficient reserves and real self-reliance. According to him, the gap between political messaging and ground reality needs serious attention.

Speaking about Kerala politics, Kharge said the people of Kerala are educated and tend to choose good governance. He added that governance standards in Kerala have improved and referred to past political controversies, stating that people were earlier misled in the name of Sabarimala-related politics. He described the current situation as a positive beginning in terms of public administration.

Responding to Prime Minister Modi’s appeal to reduce petrol and diesel consumption, Kharge questioned the practicality of such suggestions. He remarked that simply advising people to use public transport does not address real issues faced by citizens.

He further commented that BJP leaders using metro services for social media content would not solve the problems of ordinary people. He stressed that governance must focus on real solutions rather than symbolic actions or publicity-driven initiatives.

The remarks sparked political discussion in the region, with supporters and critics presenting differing views on governance, development, and public policy priorities.
