Uttarakhand Hit by 3.1 Magnitude EarthquakePithoragarh

A mild earthquake of magnitude 3.1 struck Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand on Friday at 4:22 pm, with a depth of 10 km, according to the National Centre for Seismology. The quake’s epicentre was recorded at 30.03°N latitude and 80.69°E longitude. Further details about its impact are awaited.

The region continues to face challenges from heavy rainfall and flash floods. On September 11, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas. Following the survey, he announced financial assistance of Rs 1,200 crore to support relief and rehabilitation efforts in Uttarakhand. Measures include rebuilding homes under PM Awas Yojana, restoring national highways, reconstructing schools, providing relief via PMNRF, and distributing livestock mini-kits.

Inter-Ministerial Central teams have been deployed to assess the flood damage, and additional support will be considered based on their reports. PM Modi expressed condolences to those who lost their lives and assured full assistance from the Union Government to help Uttarakhand recover from the natural calamities.
