New bridge to improve bengre connectivity soon

Mangaluru

Mangaluru Smart City Limited is preparing a complex engineering operation to lift a 900-tonne, 100-metre bowstring girder for the Sulthan Bathery-Tannirbavi bridge across the Phalguni river. Officials said the steel structure will be raised 11 metres above the riverbed and aligned onto bridge piers using precision jacking technology. The entire process may take two weeks, while the main lifting work could continue for six days. Authorities aim to finish before the monsoon and remove the temporary coffer bund for uninterrupted boat movement. The Rs 64-crore bridge project will improve connectivity to Tannirbavi beach and provide Bengre residents faster mainland access, reducing dependence on ferries and long road routes for commuters.
