Karkala
An elderly resident of Belman in Karkala taluk was allegedly duped of over Rs 12 lakh by fraudsters who promised to cure his ailing wife through Ayurvedic treatment. The victim met a man in Udupi who claimed similar illnesses had been cured. He was then introduced to others who demanded large sums for medicines. Trusting them, he transferred money via Google Pay, paid cash, and issued cheques from his HDFC Bank account. The accused later became unreachable. When the medicines showed no improvement, he realised the fraud and lodged a complaint with Karkala police.
