Local MLA Chennareddy Patil Tunnur hailed the Congress party’s recent by-election triumphs in Davanagere South and Bagalkot as a clear endorsement of the government’s “pro-people” agenda. In reports, Patil noted that the results reflect deep public trust in the state’s administration and its welfare initiatives.
The victory of Samarth Shamanur in Davanagere South is particularly significant, as he continues the storied political legacy of his late grandfather, Shamanur Shivashankarappa. At a young age, Shamanur has already made his mark by securing a seat once held by a veteran leader. Similarly, in Bagalkot, Umesh Meti’s win has solidified his family’s local influence while strengthening the party’s overall foothold in the region.
Patil attributed these successes to a combination of factors, including disciplined campaigning and the strong leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Mallikarjun Kharge, and D.K. Shivakumar. He specifically highlighted the “guarantee schemes,” which have resonated deeply with women voters and marginalized communities.
“Despite the constant criticism from the BJP-JD(S) alliance over the last three years, the citizens have spoken,” Patil said. He described the by-election outcome as a major setback for the opposition and a roadmap for the 2028 Assembly elections. Confident in the party’s trajectory, the MLA believes these results prove that the public approves of their work, setting the stage for Congress to retain power in the state for years to come.
