ECO-FRIENDLY EFFORT
Bengaluru
In a remarkable eco-friendly effort, the NSS Unit of BMS College of Engineering (BMSCE), Basavanagudi, produced 50,000 handmade paper bags for this year’s Kadlekai Parishe, Bengaluru’s historic groundnut fair.
The bags, crafted entirely from recycled newspapers, were handed out to vendors during the fair’s inauguration.
Over the past few weeks, college volunteers collected old newspapers and carefully assembled the bags on campus. Their goal was to reduce plastic use during the five-day festival, one of Bengaluru’s largest cultural events. Vendors and local residents appreciated the initiative, praising the students for promoting sustainability and environmental awareness.
In addition to the paper-bag drive, more than 100 NSS volunteers helped during the inauguration, assisting organizers, managing the crowd, and supporting dignitaries. Their active participation ensured the opening ceremony ran smoothly and added a sense of community support to the festival.
College authorities lauded the students for their dedication and sense of social responsibility, noting that the initiative reflects BMSCE’s ongoing commitment to community service and environmental stewardship. The NSS Unit encouraged more students to participate in similar public welfare activities, highlighting the impact of small but meaningful actions on society and the environment.
The project demonstrates how student-led efforts can make a real difference, inspiring citizens and visitors to adopt eco-friendly practices during festivals and daily life.
