BENGALURU
Residents of MS Ramaiah Layout on Tumakuru Road are fuming over recurring garbage problems on 1st Main Road — not due to civic neglect, but because of a few irresponsible residents who dump waste at night.
Most residents clarified that pourakarmikas are doing their jobs efficiently. However, the situation remains grim as garbage piles up overnight, turning the stretch into an eyesore and causing inconvenience to pedestrians.
A homemaker, preferring anonymity, said, “I find no fault with pourakarmikas. They clear garbage regularly, but a few residents keep throwing waste on the road at night.”
Resident Anantha Ramaiah blamed the issue on vacant sites under litigation, which have become informal dumping grounds. “Some lazy residents find these open plots convenient to discard waste. Shockingly, a few even toss garbage from their balconies,” he said, urging the Bengaluru West City Corporation (BWCC) to penalize offenders.
Chandre Gowda, Health Inspector of Bagalagunte ward, confirmed that garbage is cleared regularly but admitted to persistent challenges. “Some residents set dry waste on fire and dump all kinds of trash, including old mattresses. We will take strict measures to keep the stretch clean,” he assured.
Residents have urged the BWCC to install CCTV cameras, conduct awareness campaigns, and enforce fines to discourage night-time dumping, emphasizing that maintaining cleanliness requires collective responsibility and civic discipline from the community.
