Must read

The Election Commission (EC) refuted claims circulating on social media and messaging platforms alleging non-activation of a ballot unit by a polling official at a booth in Shantinagar, Bengaluru. In a statement posted on X, the EC labeled the reports as “incorrect and baseless.

According to the District Election Officer, no such incident of ballot unit non-activation was reported from the specified polling station. Upon receiving a complaint regarding alleged non-activation of the ballot button, the Assistant Returning Officer promptly investigated the matter. It was found that the entries in the register and the control unit aligned perfectly, indicating no irregularities.

The same has been confirmed by the Assistant Returning Officer concerned. Hence, the narration in the said audio recording is far from the truth, baseless, and of presumptive nature, added the District Election Officer in the statement.

The polling took place on Friday across 14 parliamentary constituencies of Karnataka during the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The remaining seats are scheduled for polling on May 7, with the counting of votes slated for June 4.
