Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, accused the ED of twisting facts about his diet plan made by his doctor. He denied deliberately raising his sugar levels to secure bail, stating he wouldn’t risk his health for it. The judge reserved the verdict on Kejriwal’s request to consult a doctor till Monday, asking Tihar Jail to respond if needed by Saturday.
Kejriwal’s lawyer, Abhishek Singhvi, argued that his client followed the doctor’s diet chart. The AAP criticized the ED for politicizing Kejriwal’s food habits.
The ED alleged Kejriwal was intentionally consuming high-carb foods like mangoes to spike his blood sugar for sympathy. Kejriwal, in custody till April 23, sought insulin and daily video consultations for his diabetes.
Singhvi refuted the mango allegations, stating they were sent only three times out of 48 meals and ceased after April 8. He defended Kejriwal’s diet choices, highlighting his limited intake of aloo puri.
Singhvi questioned the denial of medical consultations, labeling the ED’s stance as unprecedented in democracy’s 75 years. The ED countered, claiming Kejriwal’s diet didn’t align with the doctor’s prescription and argued against medical consultations, citing adequate jail medical facilities. Kejriwal’s counsel criticized the ED’s involvement, accusing them of a media trial.
