The Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, plans to install Telemetric Weather Stations (TWS) in tehsils across various districts, according to an official announcement. Initially, these TWS will be established in 100 of the most drought-prone tehsils across different districts, with priority given to areas like Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, and seven districts in Bundelkhand where drought is a recurring threat.

Guidelines have been issued by the Relief Commissioner’s office to Additional District Magistrates for this purpose, along with instructions to designate land for the installations. Principal Secretary Revenue P. Guru Prasad emphasized the annual challenges faced by farmers due to drought, leading to the decision to set up TWS in the initial phase.

Relief Commissioner G.S. Naveen highlighted the priority given to tehsils in seven Bundelkhand districts and certain tehsils in Sonbhadra and Mirzapur. An initial fund of Rs 10 crore has been allocated for this project, with guidelines issued to all districts for land marking and subsequent establishment of TWS in all tehsils and blocks across the state.

These weather stations will be strategically located at a distance of 7-10 kilometers from the existing Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) and Automatic Rain-Gauge Stations (ARG), ensuring accurate data collection. Guidelines also stress the importance of selecting suitable locations away from obstructions like large trees and buildings to minimize potential risks and ensure security against theft.
