BCCI announces WPL 2027 dates, with player retention on September 28, auction on October 28 and season scheduled from January 14.
MUMBAI
The BCCI has announced the key dates for the fifth edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), with the 2027 season scheduled to run from January 14 to February 7.
The first deadline ahead of the season will be the Player Retention deadline on September 28, 2026. The five franchises will have the opportunity to retain players from their existing squads before finalising their teams.
The WPL Player Auction will be held on October 28, 2026, at the Grand Hyatt Kochi. The five franchises will look to strengthen their squads and complete their team combinations for the upcoming season.
The 2026 edition was played from January 9 to February 5, with Mumbai Indians facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opening match at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
RCB won the 2026 WPL title, becoming the second team to win the competition twice after Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians won the inaugural 2023 edition and the 2025 title, while RCB previously lifted the trophy in 2024.
The WPL has established itself as a major platform for women’s T20 cricket, bringing together leading players from India and around the world while providing opportunities for emerging talent to compete at the highest level.
The 2027 season will mark the league’s fifth edition, with franchises now entering the preparation phase through player retention and the auction. The BCCI’s schedule gives teams several months to finalise their squads before the tournament begins in January.
The WPL has continued to expand its profile since its launch in 2023, with Indian and international players featuring across the five franchise teams. The upcoming season will again bring together established stars and emerging players as teams compete for the league title.
