Max Verstappen has officially signed a massive contract extension with Red Bull, tying him to the team through the 2030 season. The announcement ends months of paddock speculation regarding the four-time world champion’s future and brings much-needed stability to the Milton Keynes squad.
Former Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko believes the timing of the extension could not have been better. Speaking to Krone Zeitung, Marko noted that locking in the 71-time grand prix winner sends the right signal and brings vital calm to the organization. Verstappen’s previous deal ran until 2028 but included performance-related exit clauses that fueled heavy links to Mercedes and McLaren throughout 2025 and early 2026.
Despite outside interest and informal talks with rival bosses, the 28-year-old driver ultimately decided to stay put. Marko emphasized that Verstappen serves as the face and leading figure of the entire operation. His presence acts as a crucial factor for the team’s future, as every ambitious engineer in the paddock naturally wants the opportunity to work with the best driver on the grid.
The length of the new agreement is particularly significant because it aligns with the conclusion of the current V6 turbo-hybrid power unit cycle. It also brings Verstappen right to the doorstep of Formula One’s next major regulatory overhaul, which is expected to introduce 2.4-litre V8 engines running entirely on sustainable fuels around 2030 or 2031.
Marko admitted that the upcoming engine regulation timeline certainly played a role in negotiations. By securing their star driver for the long haul, Red Bull has fortified its foundation, ensuring they remain a powerhouse as the sport prepares for its next generation of technological evolution.
