Kharge targets BJP over rising household costs

NEW DELHI

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday criticised the Narendra Modi government over rising prices of essential commodities, saying the BJP’s promise of “achche din” had instead made it harder for ordinary families to manage their household budgets. He accused the government of failing to control food inflation and ease the financial pressure on consumers.

In a post on X, Kharge said the prices of basic items had become a serious concern for common people. He argued that families were being forced to spend more on everyday needs, leaving less money available for other household expenses. According to him, the government must address the issue instead of avoiding questions about inflation.

Kharge also accused the BJP of trying to escape public scrutiny through what he described as distracting stunts and irrelevant statements. He said the Congress would continue to raise questions about the cost of living and demand answers from the government on behalf of ordinary citizens.

The Congress president said inflation directly affects families because food and other essential goods form a major part of monthly spending. He maintained that people could not be expected to ignore the continued pressure on their household finances while political debates focused on other issues.

Kharge warned that voters would remember the difficulties caused by rising prices and would judge the government over its handling of inflation. His remarks added to the Congress’s criticism of the Centre on economic issues, with the party continuing to demand greater accountability over the cost of essential commodities. The issue is likely to remain a major political point as concerns over household expenses continue.
