Police have registered an FIR in Chikkamagaluru following a controversy over a 40-foot-tall cutout of Tipu Sultan installed during Eid-e-Milad celebrations and a social media reel allegedly featuring a song associated with the Pakistan Army.
According to the complaint, a group of Muslim youths installed the large Tipu Sultan cutout in Chikkamagaluru city as part of the Eid-e-Milad celebrations. A video of the cutout was reportedly recorded and uploaded as a reel on social media with a song referring to Pakistani Mujahideen.
The video was allegedly shared through an Instagram account named “Chikkamagaluru Power Tipu Boys.” The use of the song has triggered controversy, with concerns being raised that the content could affect communal harmony.
Sub-Inspector Dhanraj of the Chikkamagaluru City Police Station filed a complaint in connection with the social media post. The complaint alleged that the song was used in a manner that could hurt religious sentiments and disturb communal harmony.
Police have registered a case based on the complaint and initiated an investigation into the video and those responsible for creating and circulating it. Authorities are also examining the circumstances surrounding the installation of the large cutout and the social media content.
The complaint alleged that the use of the song, which reportedly referred to Pakistani soldiers, was deliberate and could promote hostility between communities. The complainant sought appropriate action against those responsible for allegedly attempting to create communal tension.
Police are expected to examine the original video, the Instagram account and other available digital evidence as part of the investigation. Further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.
