Ambedkar is an ideology, not just a person: Prof Sali

Ballari

Dr B.R. Ambedkar should not be viewed merely as an individual, but his ideology, philosophy and social vision must be understood deeply, said Prof. N.M. Sali, Registrar (Evaluation) of Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University.

He was speaking after inaugurating the ‘Reading Ambedkar’ special programme and prize distribution ceremony for winners of an essay competition, organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture at Saraladevi Satishchandra Agarwal Government First Grade College in Ballari on Monday. He said students should study not only Ambedkar’s life but also his writings and ideas on social inequalities and reforms.

Prof. Sali said Ambedkar’s vision should not remain limited to slogans but should be reflected through knowledge, awareness and a sense of social responsibility. Becoming responsible citizens, regardless of their chosen profession, would be the true tribute to Ambedkar, he said.

College Principal Prof. Prahlad Choudhary G. said the Constitution was the strongest foundation for unity and equality in India’s diverse society. Assistant Professor Alambasha said Ambedkar’s contributions should not be confined to any particular caste. He urged students to reject narrow caste-based thinking and follow the path of justice and equality.

The Constitution’s Preamble was read during the programme. Essay competition winners Nandini, Nandini, G. Vijay Kumar, Y. Sunitha and Roopa received books and certificates for securing first, second, third and consolation prizes respectively.
