World Mosquito Day raises awareness in Belaguru

Chitradurga

An awareness programme was organised recently at the Anganwadi Centre and Government Higher Girls’ School in Belaguru village, under the jurisdiction of Ballalasamudra Primary Health Centre in Hosadurga taluk, to mark World Mosquito Day.

Addressing the gathering, Block Health Education Officer Lalithamma explained the health risks associated with mosquito-borne diseases, including malaria, dengue, chikungunya, encephalitis and filariasis. She urged residents to remain alert and adopt preventive measures to reduce mosquito breeding and the spread of infections.

Lalithamma advised people to ensure that water does not stagnate in and around their homes, as stagnant water provides breeding grounds for mosquitoes. She also recommended using mosquito screens on windows and doors and mosquito nets while sleeping, particularly in areas where mosquito-borne diseases are reported.

As part of the programme, schoolchildren were administered a pledge to support efforts aimed at preventing and controlling mosquito-borne diseases. The health team also supervised a session related to the Universal Immunisation Programme and reviewed the arrangements for vaccination activities.

Senior Primary Health Safety Officer Nirmala and Primary Health Safety Officer Rekha participated in the programme along with school teachers, Anganwadi and ASHA workers, local residents and students.

Health officials stressed that community participation is essential for controlling mosquito-borne diseases. They called upon residents to regularly inspect their surroundings, remove stagnant water and maintain cleanliness around homes and public places. The awareness programme aimed to encourage children and residents to adopt simple preventive practices and contribute to creating a healthier community.
