Dangerous roadside transformer alarms rural residents

KALABURAGI

People living in Jewargi B village, located within Afzalpur taluk, are spending their days in constant anxiety. A newly installed power transformer sitting dangerously close to the main roadside has turned a routine daily commute into a high-risk hazard for local pedestrians, motorists, and stray livestock.

Local leaders, including former Gram Panchayat president Sharanabasappa Biradar and resident Gurushanth Pasodiya, voiced deep frustration over the ongoing safety crisis. They pointed out that the setup poses an immediate threat to everyday movement, especially when village cattle wander too close to the energized unit.

According to residents, formal complaints were lodged weeks ago with the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company authorities, but meaningful action remains absent. Officials had erected concrete poles nearly half a year ago, promising locals that the hazardous electrical fixture would be shifted away from the path. Yet, that promise sits unfulfilled, leaving families worried about potential electrocution risks or vehicle collisions. Village representatives are now urgently calling on the GESCOM Executive Engineer to step in and relocate the equipment to a secure zone without further delay.

Beyond the electrical threat, the community is dealing with failing civic infrastructure. Dirty drainage water regularly spills directly onto the local dirt paths, creating foul-smelling pools. At the same time, thick, overgrown bushes choke the edges of the narrow roadway, making pedestrian travel hazardous, especially after dark.

Fed up with poor living conditions, residents are demanding a site inspection from higher officials. They want leaders from the Nandarga Gram Panchayat and the Taluk Panchayat to personally visit Jewargi B village, witness the deplorable state of the roads and drains, and fix the problems immediately. Community members hope prompt intervention will finally restore safety and basic sanitation to their neighborhood.
