The Karnataka government has taken up 45 major projects aimed at improving development and expanding public services, Backward Classes Welfare, Kannada and Culture Minister and Koppal District In-charge Minister Shivraj Thangadagi said on Saturday.
Speaking after hoisting the national flag at the District Stadium during the 80th Independence Day celebrations, Thangadagi said schemes such as Raitha Mitra, Gramanubhav, Yuva Udyoga Setu, Public Service Department, Land Guarantee and Karnataka Mobility Grid Mission would support farmers, youth and disadvantaged communities. He said 10,000 Bharat Jodo Yuva Sanghs would be formed across the state to encourage sports, culture, scientific thinking and social harmony. Koppal district is expected to have 215 such groups.
The minister said 12.34 lakh of the district’s 15.19 lakh caste certificates had already been delivered to beneficiaries’ homes. He also announced monthly Prajaseva Andolana meetings to address public grievances. Recruitment to 72,186 vacant government posts is expected to be completed within six months, bringing hope to thousands of job seekers.
He said free bus passes would now be available to all school and college students, including boys, from primary education through postgraduate studies. Around 18,000 students in Koppal have already benefited. For 2026-27, ₹330.37 crore has been allocated to the district under the Kalyan Karnataka Regional Development Scheme.
Thangadagi urged citizens to remember freedom fighters and work for an equal society without caste or religious discrimination. Police, Home Guards, NCC, Scouts and other teams joined the parade, while students performed patriotic programmes. Meritorious students and athletes were honoured during the celebration, which concluded with a renewed call for unity and development.
