Supporters stage massive protest in Mysuru

Protesting against the denial of a ministerial berth to MLA Tanveer Sait during the Cabinet expansion, his supporters and followers staged a massive demonstration at the Manipal Hospital junction in Mysuru.
More than 2,000 supporters, including former corporators, presidents and office-bearers of various Congress frontal organisations, gathered at the Manipal Hospital Junction on the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway and blocked the road, staging a dharna. They expressed their anger against the Congress high command and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The protesters said it was a grave injustice to senior and experienced leader Tanveer Sait to deny him a ministerial position. In the past, Mysuru district had two ministers as well as a Chief Minister, but the district had not received adequate representation this time.
Supporter Syed Iqbal said Sait was deeply disappointed over being left out of the Cabinet and had even considered resigning as MLA. However, he appealed to Sait not to resign under any circumstances. “Our fight will continue as long as necessary to ensure that Tanveer Sait gets a ministerial berth while remaining within the party,” he said.
Courted arrest
The massive protest brought traffic on the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway to a complete standstill. As the blockade caused inconvenience to commuters, police reached the spot and took several protesting the supporters into custody. The police subsequently cleared the road and restored traffic movement.
The protest was attended by Karnataka Exhibition Authority Chairman Ayub Khan, Narasimharaja Block Congress president Iqbal, former corporators Pandu, Basheer, Pradeep Kumar and Satyaraj, and leaders Akmal Pasha, Soughat, Shaheen Shah, Aftab and Sharath, among others.
