Nikhil raises fresh questions over voter revision process

JD(S) leader alleged officials influenced in elections, citing irregularities, and urged Ramanagara residents to protect fairness

RAMANAGARA

JD(S) youth leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy has alleged serious irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Ramanagara and demanded an independent inquiry into the process. Addressing reporters, he claimed that voter list revision was not being carried out according to the prescribed rules and urged authorities to ensure complete transparency.

Nikhil alleged that officials had misled Booth Level Agent-2 representatives during a recent meeting and claimed that the SIR exercise was being conducted improperly in several areas, including Tipu Nagar, Yarab Nagar, and Mehboob Nagar. He said party workers had collected video evidence after visiting these localities and alleged that an atmosphere of fear had been created during the revision process.

Questioning the role of district officials, Nikhil said the voter revision should be conducted with representatives of all major political parties present during the distribution of forms. He claimed the guidelines requiring door-to-door visits were not being followed properly. He also criticised the District Commissioner, alleging that established procedures were being ignored. He further questioned the officer’s absence during the controversy and demanded accountability from the administration.

The JD(S) leader also accused some local political leaders of influencing Booth Level Officers and alleged that pressure was being placed on officials. Referring to previous elections, he claimed that electoral irregularities had affected the democratic process. He urged residents of Ramanagara to remain alert and protect the fairness of future elections.

Nikhil called on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to visit Karnataka and personally review the voter revision exercise. He said he was prepared to take the issue to New Delhi and hold a press conference in English to explain the allegations before national leaders. He also criticised the state government over its development projects and questioned its priorities.

Demanding immediate action, Nikhil urged the State Election Commission to withdraw the recent SIR process conducted at a local venue and order a fresh exercise in 35 sensitive polling stations. He said all video evidence would be submitted to the State Election Commission and the Chief Electoral Officer. He added that stronger monitoring would help maintain public confidence in the electoral process.
