Uttara Kannada seeks permanent water solution under JJM

MP Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri said that villages facing repeated drinking water shortage in Uttara Kannada district must get a permanent solution through the second phase of Jal Jeevan Mission He spoke while chairing a review meeting on JJM works at the District Collector office on Monday
He said many villages still depend on private borewells tube wells and water tankers during summer Gram Panchayats and Taluk Panchayats are supplying water but delays in JJM works are causing concern He asked officials to ensure quality work and avoid delays
The MP expressed anger over slow progress and said contractors who delay work should be issued notices and blacklisted if necessary He also directed that drinking water connections must be given priority wherever needed
Officials informed that out of 965 approved works under JJM in the district several have been completed across different phases while many are still pending Around 250 villages from the first phase have been moved to the second phase for faster implementation
He said proper planning under JJM multi village water supply schemes and other government projects must be implemented effectively so that people at the grassroots level get safe drinking water
Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr Dileesh Shashi said water is currently being supplied through 68 private borewells in 31 gram panchayats and tankers in 16 wards
District officials including the District Collector and Additional District Collector attended the meeting and reviewed progress of water supply works and directed departments to speed up completion of pending schemes and ensure uninterrupted safe drinking water supply to all rural and urban habitations in the district.
