District-level officials in Vijayapura have been urged to work in coordination to effectively address climate change challenges and implement key performance indicators under state action plans.

Vijayapura Chief Planning Officer of the Zilla Panchayat, C.B. Kumbar, stressed the importance of collective responsibility among departments during a training programme on the Karnataka State Action Plan on Climate Change (KSAPCC). The event was held at the Zilla Panchayat hall and organised by EMPRI in collaboration with the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology.

He assured full institutional support for implementing climate-related initiatives and emphasised the need for coordinated planning and execution across departments to achieve sustainable outcomes.

Dr. Pavitra P. Nayak, Research Scientist at EMPRI, delivered a detailed presentation on climate policies, adaptation strategies, and the role of various departments in mitigating climate change impacts. She also highlighted the effects of short-lived climate pollutants and presented district-level climate data for better planning.

Forest Department official Shivarudrappa Kabadagi briefed participants on ongoing environmental protection measures in Vijayapura district, while water resources expert Dr. Shashikumar N. outlined action plans related to water conservation and management in the context of climate change.

The programme was attended by around 55 officials from different departments, along with representatives from educational institutions and other stakeholders. Participants discussed the need for stronger inter-departmental coordination and improved data-driven planning to address emerging environmental challenges.

Officials concluded that local-level implementation of climate strategies is crucial, especially in regions like Vijayapura that face rising temperatures and water stress, making integrated action essential for long-term sustainability.
