Kinnigoli Traffic Chaos

Kinnigoli

Persistent traffic congestion in Kinnigoli town, a key junction connecting several surrounding villages in coastal Karnataka, has left commuters and residents increasingly frustrated as daily delays continue unabated.

The bottleneck is most severe around the bus stand and main road, where narrow stretches struggle to handle the rising volume of vehicles. The problem worsens significantly during weekends and festival seasons, when traffic inflow increases sharply.

Despite repeated discussions over the years, including nearly a dozen meetings by the former gram panchayat and the current town panchayat, no lasting solution has been implemented. Residents say temporary measures taken during the COVID-19 period, including vehicle restrictions and police deployment, offered only short-term relief.

At present, the absence of dedicated traffic personnel has further aggravated the situation. Locals allege that police or home guards are rarely stationed permanently, leading to unmanaged traffic flow during peak hours. This results in long delays and frequent gridlocks.

Experts and residents have suggested infrastructure improvements such as road widening, especially along the Moorkaveri to Padmanur stretch, which spans about one kilometre. They also point to unregulated bus stoppages and roadside parking as major contributors to congestion.

Kinnigoli continues to witness rapid growth in vehicle numbers without corresponding upgrades in road infrastructure, worsening daily commuting conditions.

Locals are urging authorities to implement long-term traffic management plans, strengthen enforcement, and improve road design to prevent the situation from deteriorating further in the future.
