MANGALURU
Energy Minister K.J. George has directed officials to complete the long-pending 400 KV substation project at Kadandale in Moodbidri taluk by July 15.
The announcement was made after a review of ongoing works by KPTCL Managing Director Dr. Ram Prasat Manohar at the project site in Dakshina Kannada district.
Officials said the project had been delayed for nearly three years due to land disputes, but recent efforts by the energy department and senior officials helped resolve major hurdles and restart progress.
The substation is being developed to improve power supply in key coastal districts including Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district, which are important industrial and commercial hubs of the state.
Officials said the project will help reduce voltage fluctuations and power shortages, especially during the monsoon season when demand increases and supply disruptions are common.
The new facility will also allow faster restoration of electricity during technical faults by enabling alternative power routing through the grid system.
Dr. Manohar said the project is crucial for ensuring uninterrupted and quality power supply to industries, households and essential services in the coastal region.
He added that the government has planned a temporary line-clear shutdown from May 6 to May 24 on the existing transmission line to speed up construction work.
During this period, alternative arrangements will be made to manage electricity demand, though short-term load shedding may occur if technically necessary.
Energy Minister K.J. George said providing stable power is a top priority for the government and emphasized that infrastructure delays due to legal issues have now been addressed.
He said continuous review meetings and coordination between departments helped resolve land-related complications and push the project forward.
Officials have appealed to the public for cooperation during the construction phase, stating that the project will bring long-term benefits to Mangaluru, Udupi and surrounding regions.
The government expects the substation to significantly strengthen the coastal power network and support future industrial growth once completed.
