BELAGAVI
The Belagavi city corporation has introduced a new shade system at traffic signals to help commuters escape the harsh summer heat at busy junctions in the city The initiative has been first implemented at Rani Channamma Circle where green tarpaulin shades have been placed on both sides to protect two wheeler riders and pedestrians from direct sunlight during signal stops Citizens say the shade allows them to wait comfortably until the signal turns green without discomfort Earlier commuters often struggled under extreme heat and sometimes moved away to find tree cover now they can stay safely at the junction The city commissioner said the idea was suggested to improve public comfort and will be expanded to other signals gradually.
Officials also plan to continue the project with support from donors and local groups making it a community supported effort Residents appreciated the move calling it simple yet very effective in reducing heat stress during daily travel especially for elderly people and regular commuters who spend time waiting at signals The administration hopes to install similar shade structures across all major junctions in coming weeks to improve urban travel comfort during peak summer conditions in the region Authorities said the project is part of improving urban infrastructure and public safety measures across Belagavi city which has faced rising temperatures this season and increasing traffic congestion during peak hours The initiative aims to enhance commuter comfort and safety across the city system
