ADB: Global value chains drive growth, jobs

New Delhi

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) says global value chains have significantly boosted economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction across Asia-Pacific over the past 25 years. However, it warns that geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions, and technological changes are reshaping global production networks. According to the ADB report, the region now accounts for one-third of global value chain trade, with developing economies doubling their share since 2000. While some countries are deeply integrated, others remain excluded. The report highlights resilience, sustainability, and inclusion as key priorities, stressing better infrastructure, skills, and support for small and medium enterprises to ensure balanced growth.
