BELAGAVI
Police in Belagavi have arrested a man who allegedly stabbed his mother-in-law following a family dispute in Aaladakatti village of Savadatti taluk.
The accused, identified as Aravind Gavali, is said to have attacked Mahadevi Karigara, who is undergoing treatment at Belagavi District Hospital. Police said the incident occurred after a dispute over video calls involving the couple and their newborn baby. Family members alleged that Aravind repeatedly pressured his wife to show the baby during video calls, leading to tensions at home. On the day of the incident, an argument escalated when the mother-in-law intervened and advised him to resolve the issue peacefully.
Police said Aravind became angry and allegedly stabbed her in the stomach before fleeing the scene as neighbours rushed in. The injured woman was first taken to a local hospital and later shifted for advanced treatment due to her condition. A case has been registered at Murugoda Police Station, and the accused has been taken into custody for further investigation. Officials said the incident has shocked the village, with residents expressing concern over rising domestic disputes turning violent.
Police also warned that strict action will be taken in cases of domestic violence and urged citizens to report such incidents immediately to avoid escalation and ensure safety within families. Investigators are collecting statements from witnesses and family members to understand the sequence of events clearly.
