GitHub reports India has 27 million developers, making it the world’s fastest-growing developer community, with over two million joining in 2026 alone. It accounts for one in seven new developers globally, reflecting India’s rising dominance in open-source contributions. India is also the second-largest contributor to open-source AI projects worldwide, with over 7.5 million contributions. GitHub highlights India’s expanding ecosystem, including projects like Hyperswitch, ERPNext, ToolJet, and Bruno gaining global adoption. Microsoft and CEO Satya Nadella have emphasized India’s potential to become the largest developer base by 2030. Growth in platforms like Azure and GitHub Copilot reflects increasing adoption of AI-driven development tools across India’s tech landscape. India continues strengthening global leadership in software innovation rapidly.
