India signs deal for indigenous mountain radars

New Delhi

The Ministry of Defence has signed a Rs 1,950 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited to supply two advanced mountain radars for the Indian Air Force. The deal supports the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, focusing on local design and production. Developed by a DRDO laboratory, the radar systems will improve surveillance in difficult mountainous areas. Officials said the move will strengthen air defence and reduce dependence on foreign equipment. The project is also expected to boost the domestic defence industry and promote technological growth within the country’s expanding security and manufacturing ecosystem.
