Licensed Surveyors Intensify Statewide Protest, Demand Government Action

Hubballi

The Licensed Land Surveyors Association has intensified its protest across the state over the past month, demanding the fulfillment of long-pending demands and urging the government to take immediate action. The ongoing protest by licensed surveyors has drawn significant attention, as thousands of professionals continue to express dissatisfaction over the lack of basic facilities and recognition. Speaking on the issue, License Surveyor Director Shanmukha criticized the government for its inaction and urged authorities to address their concerns without further delay.

According to the association, more than 6,000 licensed surveyors have been working across the state for several years. Despite performing duties similar to government surveyors, they claim they are deprived of equal facilities, benefits, and recognition. We carry out the same responsibilities as government surveyors, yet we are treated unequally, Shanmukha stated, highlighting the disparity in working conditions.

The protest has also had a wider impact on public services. With surveyors abstaining from work, over five lakh survey-related cases are currently pending across the state. Reports indicate that while there are around 3,000 government surveyors, the number of licensed surveyors exceeds 6,000, making their role crucial in handling the workload.

The association further pointed out that during the Belagavi session, authorities had assured them that their issues would be addressed in the presence of Minister Krishna Byre Gowda. However, the surveyors allege that no concrete steps have been taken so far. They also expressed disappointment over the response of the Revenue Department, stating that despite earlier assurances from the Commissioner, their concerns remain unresolved.

As a result of the prolonged protest, surveyors claim that their families are facing hardships, while the general public is also suffering due to delays in land-related services. The association has warned that the agitation will continue until their demands are met.

Key demands include recruitment into government services, implementation of a uniform pay structure and service framework, security for senior surveyors, and a temporary halt on new recruitment. The protestors also called for an end to what they described as oppression and unfair treatment of licensed surveyors. The situation remains tense as surveyors continue their agitation, awaiting a positive response from the government.
