The program was held on Ramanuja Road at Jyotirgamaya Free Girls’ Hostel, where members of the S. Prakash Priyadarshan Friends Group organized the distribution of holige, dry fruits, fresh fruits, and notebooks to the hostel residents. The initiative was aimed at combining celebration with social responsibility, reflecting the timeless teaching that non-violence is the highest virtue, a principle strongly advocated by Mahavira.
Addressing the gathering, senior social worker Dr. Raghuram Vajpayee spoke about the five key principles of life taught by Mahavir—truth, non-violence, non-stealing, celibacy, and non-possessiveness. He said that celebrating the occasion through acts of service brings deeper meaning to the event and reminds people of the importance of humanity, self-awareness, and ethical living.
JDS City Working President S. Prakash Priyadarshan emphasized that Mahavir’s teachings are universal and relevant to all religions. He noted that love and non-violence can unite people across different communities and beliefs. He urged citizens to adopt peaceful ways of living and highlighted the need for harmony and coexistence in today’s world. He also called on people to pray for global peace and understanding.
The event was attended by several notable individuals, including social worker Sinchana Gowda, political leader Purushottam, social activist Vidya, Shreyas from M.M. Groups, senior sportsperson Mahadev, Rajesh Kumar, Mahesh, and representatives of the hostel including Madesh. Others such as S.P. Akshay Priyadarshan and Datta were also present.
The celebration demonstrated how festivals can be observed in a socially meaningful way, spreading the message of kindness, unity, and service while honoring the enduring teachings of Mahavir.
