Mamata playing ‘victim card’ politics: Shah

Kolkata

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of playing “victim card” politics while releasing a chargesheet against the Trinamool Congress government.

Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Shah said Banerjee often portrays herself as a victim during elections and claimed that people of Bengal now understand her approach. He also questioned the deployment of judicial officers during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, stating it was seen only in Bengal.

Shah alleged that infiltrators were being included in voter lists and said the BJP would identify and remove them from both voter rolls and the country. He further claimed that if voted to power, the BJP would act strongly to stop infiltration.

Criticising the state government, Shah said 77 communities were added to the OBC category, alleging that most belonged to one religion. He questioned whether such decisions should be based on religion.

He also addressed recruitment issues, promising a five-year age relaxation for candidates affected by alleged scams. Shah assured that eligible youth would get another chance in SSC recruitment with a transparent process.

West Bengal Assembly elections will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting on May 4.
