Bagalkot officials remove political banners ahead of election

Bagalkot

Following the announcement of the by-election date and the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, officials of the Bagalkot Municipal Council launched a drive to remove flex banners, portraits of political leaders, and government advertisement boards from various parts of the city.

Municipal staff carried out the operation across several prominent locations in Bagalkot. Flex banners, posters, and hoardings displaying photographs of political leaders, as well as nameplates related to government advertisements, were removed from public places. The drive was conducted particularly around major junctions, roadsides, and public areas including in front of the district administration building.

According to officials, once the Model Code of Conduct comes into force after the announcement of election dates, political parties and leaders are not allowed to display promotional materials such as flex banners, posters, or hoardings in public places. In compliance with these rules, the district administration directed the municipal council to remove all such materials immediately.

Municipal workers began the clearance operation early in the day and inspected several major roads and public spaces. During the drive, banners and hoardings installed by various political groups and organizations were taken down. Government advertisement boards that contained photographs of political leaders and dignitaries were also removed as part of the operation.

Officials said the aim of the drive is to ensure strict implementation of the Model Code of Conduct and maintain neutrality in public spaces during the election period. The removal process covered areas near government offices, public buildings, and busy intersections to ensure that no political promotional materials remain visible.

Meanwhile, a similar flex clearance operation was also carried out in Jamkhandi city. Municipal council officials there removed banners and flex boards installed in different parts of the town, including those displaying government advertisements featuring political leaders and other dignitaries.

Authorities stated that inspection drives will continue in the coming days to identify and remove any remaining banners or posters that violate election guidelines. Officials have also appealed to the public and political parties to cooperate with the administration and follow the Model Code of Conduct during the election period.
