Training on Bharati–Bahubhashi, Hindi Shabd Sindhu Held at NITK Surathkal

The Department of Official Language at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, organised a one-day training programme on “Bharati – Bahubhashi and Hindi Shabd Sindhu” on Tuesday to promote the use of indigenous language technologies in official work.

The programme was conducted in association with the Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India; the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune; and the Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC), Mangaluru.

The training aimed at creating awareness and providing hands-on exposure to Bharati–Bahubhashi, a multilingual computing tool, and Hindi Shabd Sindhu, a comprehensive Hindi lexical database developed by C-DAC. Experts from C-DAC explained the features, applications and practical usage of these tools, highlighting their importance in facilitating multilingual governance and ease of working in Hindi and other Indian languages.

More than 160 participants from various Central, State and Union Territory government organisations took part in the programme and actively engaged in the interactive sessions and demonstrations.

The inaugural session was attended by Shri Anirban Kumar Biswas, Deputy Director (Implementation), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Shashi Pal Singh, Scientist ‘F’ and Project Director, C-DAC, Pune, was the Guest of Honour. Prof. B. Ravi, Director, NITK Surathkal, presided over the programme.

Dr. Mallikarjun Angadi, Hindi Officer (in-charge), Dr. Balamuragan of Bank of Baroda, Mangaluru, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, Secretary, TOLIC, along with faculty members, staff and students, were present.

The programme concluded with an emphasis on strengthening the implementation of the Official Language policy and encouraging wider adoption of Indian language technologies in government functioning.
