Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu on Thursday informed Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis that the black box of the ill-fated aircraft carrying Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, which crashed on Wednesday, has been recovered and taken into official custody.
In a letter responding to Fadnavis, the Union minister said the recovery of the black box marked a crucial step in determining the cause of the crash. The incident resulted in the death of four other people on board, sending shockwaves across the state and prompting swift action from aviation authorities.
Naidu further stated that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which functions under the Union Civil Aviation Ministry, has formally launched an investigation into the crash. He assured the chief minister that the probe would be carried out strictly in accordance with the Aircraft Accident and Incident Rules.
As per the Aircraft Accident and Incident Rules, the investigation has begun and will be conducted in a transparent and time-bound manner, Naidu said in the letter. He added that all relevant evidence is being closely examined to establish the precise sequence of events that led to the tragedy.
According to the communication, investigators are scrutinising technical records of the aircraft, operational details related to the flight, and findings from the crash site. Data retrieved from the black box is expected to play a key role in reconstructing the final moments of the flight and identifying any mechanical, human, or environmental factors that may have contributed to the accident.
The Civil Aviation Minister also conveyed that the ministry is committed to ensuring full cooperation with the investigation and maintaining transparency throughout the process. He said the findings would help strengthen aviation safety protocols and prevent similar incidents in the future.
The crash has raised serious concerns over flight safety and operational procedures, given the high-profile nature of the passengers involved. State and central authorities have expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and assured them of a thorough inquiry.
