Bengaluru witnessed tense scenes for the second consecutive day on Friday as eviction operations resumed at Thanisandra amid tight police security. With the situation remaining sensitive, authorities carried out the removal of alleged encroachments under heavy police deployment to prevent any law-and-order issues.
Residents expressed strong anger over what they described as a sudden eviction without prior notice. Many claimed they were neither informed in advance nor compensated with the advance money they had paid. Tearfully narrating their plight, several affected families said that had they received refunds earlier, they would have made alternative housing arrangements.
The eviction pertains to nearly two acres of land in Survey Numbers 28/1 and 28/2 of K.R. Puram Hobli, Thanisandra. Based on the Keshav Narayan Committee report, the High Court had directed the clearing of encroachments on the land. Following the court’s order, officials of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) began the eviction process from Thursday.
Local residents alleged that they had been living in the area for over a decade and accused BDA officials of carrying out the operation without issuing any formal notices. Many said they possessed property-related documents, including A-khata certificates, electricity bills and water bills, and therefore believed the land was legally occupied. Several residents claimed they were unaware that the land was classified as government property.
