A mysterious incident in the Devarayanadurga forest area has left 11 monkeys dead over the past two days, raising concerns among wildlife officials. The carcasses were discovered scattered across the forested region between Devarayanadurga and Durga village. On the first day, seven dead monkeys were found, followed by four more the next day. Initial examinations indicate that the monkeys did not die from any natural disease.
Due to the sudden and unexplained deaths, forest authorities suspect possible poisoning as the cause. In response, a detailed two-day search and investigation were conducted throughout the affected forest area. Authorities are prioritising a thorough inquiry to determine the exact cause of death.
Currently, post-mortem examinations of the deceased monkeys are being carried out at the Urdigere Animal Hospital. Forest officials are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further incidents and are urging the public to stay away from the forest area until the investigation is complete. The incident has also raised awareness about the safety and conservation of wildlife in the region.
Authorities have confirmed that further steps will be taken based on the post-mortem findings, and necessary measures will be implemented if poisoning is confirmed. Meanwhile, local villagers and environmental groups are cooperating with officials to ensure that similar cases do not occur in the future.
