Experts say Operation Sindoor marked a decisive shift in India’s military doctrine and counter-terror posture

India displayed military strength, advanced technology, indigenous platforms and zero tolerance to terrorism after the Pahalgam attack. Under Operation Sindoor on May 7, Indian forces struck terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. They also repelled Pakistan’s escalation and hit key airbases without crossing borders. Experts said the operation showed India will respond forcefully to every proven cross-border terror attack. It marked a shift from limited strikes to assured deterrence.

Retired Lieutenant General Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon said air defence has become the main weapon of modern warfare. He said Pakistan continues to support terrorism to hide its internal political and economic failures. He noted Pakistan ignored India’s rise as a strong economy, democracy and military power. He warned that any future provocation would invite stronger military, economic and diplomatic costs.

Lt Gen Dhillon said Operation Sindoor created new global benchmarks in fighting terrorism. For the first time, two nuclear nations fought without crossing the Line of Control. Air defence systems stopped enemy aircraft, missiles and drones using modern technology.

He said future wars will be non-contact, driven by cyber, space, electronic and information warfare. Economic disruption and narrative battles will also play major roles. He called for strong information systems and a clear counter-terror policy. India’s doctrine, he said, treats terrorists, their groups and sponsors as one. Experts said Operation Sindoor reflects a new India with firm resolve against terrorism. They said it sends a strong message to hostile neighbours and reinforces national security through decisive, measured action across multiple strategic domains.
