Lok Sabha achieves 111 percent productivity this session

Sixth session of 18th Lok Sabha ended Friday with record productivity, debates, multiple bills passed, and legislative activity

The Sixth session of the 18th Lok Sabha, which began on December 1, concluded on Friday, with Speaker Om Birla highlighting the House’s 111 per cent productivity. A total of 15 sittings were held, covering 92 hours and 25 minutes, including an 11-hour-and-32-minute discussion on the national song “Vande Mataram.”

During the session, 10 government Bills were introduced and eight passed, including the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission Bill, the Manipur GST (Second Amendment) Bill, the Central Excise (Amendment) Bill, and the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India Bill, among others.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the discussion on the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram,” while electoral reforms were debated for nearly 13 hours, with participation from 63 members. The House admitted 300 starred questions, answered 72 orally, and admitted 3,449 unstarred questions. Members raised 408 matters of urgent public importance during Zero Hour, and 372 matters under Rule 377.

In addition, 35 statements were made under Direction 73A, and 38 statements under Rule 372, with 2,116 papers laid on the Table. Forty-one Parliamentary Standing Committee reports were presented. Private Members introduced 137 bills, and a resolution by Congress MP Shafi Parambil was withdrawn after discussion. The session also saw the official visit of Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, welcomed by the Indian Parliament.
