President Droupadi Murmu reached Hyderabad on Wednesday for a five-day winter sojourn. She was warmly welcomed at Air Force Station, Hakeempet, by Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers D. Sridhar Babu and Seethakka, along with Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy, and senior civil and defence officials.
The President later proceeded by road to Rashtrapati Nilayam at Bollarum, where she will stay until December 21. Police maintained tight security and traffic diversions along the route. During her stay, she will inaugurate the National Conference for Chairpersons of Public Service Commissions on December 19 and address the Brahma Kumaris’ conference on ‘Timeless Wisdom of Bharat’ on December 20.
Extensive arrangements have been made by central and state departments, including Rashtrapati Nilayam officials. The police, fire services, and medical teams are on standby, while special teams address potential wildlife issues such as snakes, monkeys, and honeybees in the expansive green premises.
Rashtrapati Nilayam, originally built in 1860 as the British Resident’s country house, became the President’s official retreat after Hyderabad’s accession to India in 1948. President Rajendra Prasad was the first to stay here in 1955, and since then, every President has conducted official work from this southern sojourn annually.
