Revanth Reddy seeks defence corridor for Hyderabad

Revanth Reddy hailed the ₹1,300 crore project as a milestone, creating 1,000+ jobs and boosting local businesses

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare the Bengaluru–Hyderabad stretch as a defence and aerospace corridor, saying it will strengthen India’s Viksit Bharat vision and boost high technology manufacturing.

He made the appeal while inaugurating Safran’s largest Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul centre for CFM LEAP aircraft engines in Hyderabad. The Safran Aircraft Engine Services India facility is coming up at GMR AeroPark near Shamshabad and is expected to become operational in 2026.

Revanth Reddy said the project marks a major milestone for the state’s aerospace journey. Built with an investment of around ₹1,300 crore, the centre will employ more than 1,000 skilled engineers and technicians. It will also create fresh business opportunities for local MSMEs and precision engineering companies.

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for Safran’s M88 military engine MRO facility, which will support the Indian Air Force and the Navy. He said Hyderabad has already grown into a strong defence and aerospace hub with over 25 global companies and more than 1,500 MSMEs working in this sector.

He highlighted that Telangana’s aerospace and defence exports doubled last year, touching ₹30,742 crore in just nine months and crossing pharma exports for the first time. He added that the state has won the Best State Award for Aerospace several times.

Revanth Reddy stressed that skilled manpower is key to future growth. Telangana has upgraded 100 ITIs into advanced technology centres and launched the Young India Skills University to train youth in aircraft maintenance and advanced manufacturing.

He invited Safran to join hands in skilling programmes and also invited the Prime Minister to attend the Telangana Rising 2047 Global Summit in December at the upcoming Bharat Future City. He said the proposed corridor will link industries, research centres and airports, helping India build a strong, self-reliant aerospace supply chain for future growth.
