India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, met with US Senator Steve Daines to discuss deepening bilateral cooperation across trade, defence, and technology.
The meeting comes amid renewed momentum in India-US strategic relations, highlighted by the upcoming 10-year defence framework agreement.
Sharing details on X, Ambassador Kwatra said, “It was an honour to meet Senator Steve Daines, esteemed member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Thanked the Senator for his strong support to strengthening India-US ties. We had an enriching conversation on the current bilateral trade engagement, signing of the 10-year defence framework agreement, and opportunities for collaboration in technology and innovation.
He also lauded Daines’ leadership in advancing India-US priorities within the US Senate.
Earlier this week, Kwatra hosted US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Paul Kapur, at India House. The discussions centered on shared regional priorities and mechanisms to further strengthen bilateral relations. Kapur expressed gratitude on X, saying he appreciated the opportunity to discuss shared bilateral and regional priorities, including strengthening the US-India relationship.
Meanwhile, the White House reaffirmed the importance of India-US relations, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stating that President Donald Trump has great respect for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that the two leaders speak pretty frequently. She also highlighted last month’s Diwali celebrations at the White House, attended by senior Indian-American officials, as well as the appointment of Sergio Gor as the next US Ambassador to India. President Trump, during the October 21 Diwali event, praised Prime Minister Modi as a great person and expressed admiration for the people of India, underscoring the enduring warmth between the two democracies.
