Take Action against Unauthorised Constructions, Says Additional Commissioner

‘Officials must act strictly without yielding to political pressure or influential persons’

BENGALURU

At a coordination meeting of the Engineering Department of Bengaluru East City Corporation held on Monday, Additional Commissioner (Development) Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar instructed officials to take firm and impartial action against unauthorised constructions and ensure accountability in developmental works across all divisions.

During the meeting, the Additional Commissioner directed officials to categorise all civil works within the East City Corporation limits into three groups — completed works, works in progress, and works to be undertaken — and prepare a color-coded digital map reflecting these categories.

The East City Corporation has provisionally demarcated eight divisions, 24 sub-divisions, and 50 wards. Officials, including Executive Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers, and Assistant Engineers, were instructed to maintain complete and updated data for their respective jurisdictions within one week.

He also directed that the progress of pothole repair works recorded on platforms such as BTP Astram, Road Pothole Grievance, and Sahaaya App be updated regularly, with details of completed works uploaded to the Astram App.

Sudhakar announced that the Commissioner, Additional Commissioners, and Chief Engineers will soon conduct daily ward-level inspections to monitor developmental works and issue on-ground instructions. Under the reorganised Engineering Department, arterial roads, sub-arterial roads, major roads, lakes, and stormwater drains will be overseen by Executive Engineers at the divisional level. To enhance efficiency and technical clarity, a Workshop will soon be organised for all engineers.

The meeting reviewed the speed, quality, and coordination of developmental works, with the Additional Commissioner stressing teamwork and inter-departmental cooperation for timely project execution.

Chief Engineers Lokesh and Krishnamurthy, along with all Executive and Assistant Executive Engineers from respective divisions, attended the meeting.

The Additional Commissioner has ordered stringent action against unauthorised constructions within corporation limits. Each division must demolish at least one unauthorised structure per week, ensuring a total of eight demolitions across all divisions, strictly in line with rules and procedures.
