Fifteen fall ill after consuming spurious liquor

A case of spurious liquor consumption has left 15 people ill in Charlopalli village, located on the Karnataka-Andhra border in Tumakuru district. The incident, which occurred two days ago, came to light late on Sunday.

According to reports, ten residents from Teriyuru and Chikkadalavatta villages in Madhugiri taluk of Tumakuru and five from Chauluru village in Andhra Pradesh fell ill after consuming the illicit liquor. The victims began experiencing severe symptoms, prompting their immediate hospitalization.

Among them, Nagaraju and Ningakka were admitted to Hindupur Hospital in Andhra Pradesh, while Marappa, Dasappa, Chikkanarasimhaiah, and T. Nagaraju from Teriyuru village were shifted to NIMHANS Hospital in Bengaluru for advanced treatment. The remaining victims received first aid and were discharged after recovery.

Following the incident, Kodigenahalli police and Andhra Pradesh police jointly visited the village and conducted a detailed investigation into the source of the spurious liquor. Authorities are also verifying whether the liquor was locally brewed or smuggled across the border. The case has raised serious concerns about the circulation of illegal alcohol in border areas and the need for stricter vigilance.
