Eminent Islamic scholar and Samastha Mushawara member Totti Mahin Ustad (75) passed away at his residence in the Fourth Mile area of Kasaragod on Sunday. Originally from Koringila in Puttur, he was widely respected as a teacher, spiritual guide, and community leader. He is survived by his wife, three sons, three daughters, and numerous disciples and admirers.
For over five decades, Ustad conducted Dars (religious teaching sessions) and mentored thousands of students who now serve as imams, teachers, and scholars across Dakshina Kannada, Kasaragod, and Kannur. His life was marked by simplicity, devotion to learning, and deep reverence for his teachers.
Born on October 19, 1950, to Baba Musliyar and Zainab at Koringila, he began his Quranic education under his mother and later studied under several renowned scholars, including Suleiman Noori Ustad and Abdul Khader Musliyar. After completing his religious studies at Pattikkad Jamia Nooria College, he earned the Faizi title in 1976 and began his teaching career at Adkar Juma Masjid in Jalsoor. He later served in various mosques, including those in Baalepuni, Uppinangady, and Pallikkara, where he worked as a Mudarris for 18 years and came to be known as “Totti Mahin Musliyar.”
He authored Majalisul Bahja, a noted work on Islamic jurisprudence, and founded Al-Maktabathul Khateebiyya library in memory of his mentor. Islamic scholars and organizations, including Samastha President Jifri Muthukkoya Thangal, Jamiathul Ulama, and Bahjatul Ulama, expressed condolences, describing his death as a great loss to the community and religious education.
