Statue of Rani Abbakka unveiled in Moodbidri

A statue of the legendary queen Rani Abbakka was unveiled in Moodbidri on Saturday by District-in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. The event was organized by the Jawahar Bedra Sanghatana in front of the Chowtar Palace. Minister Rao announced that he would write a letter to the Education Minister to include Rani Abbakka’s history in school textbooks, emphasizing the importance of introducing the brave queen’s story to young people.

Swamiji Swasti Shri Bhattaraka Charukirti Panditacharya of the Jain Math praised Rani Abbakka’s courage and patriotism, saying they serve as an inspiration to women. Prabhat Balnad, Principal of Jain Pre-University College, narrated the history of Rani Abbakka’s fight against the Portuguese.

The event also saw the submission of a demand letter to the minister, requesting the upgrade of the Moodbidri Primary Health Center, establishment of a government blood bank, and the start of a Rani Abbakka Research Center. Prominent figures, including K. Abhayachandra Jain, Mithun Rai, and Municipal President Jayashree Keshav, attended the event. The unveiling of the statue and the demands raised highlight the continued relevance of Rani Abbakka’s legacy and the need to preserve and promote the region’s history and culture.
