BENGALURU
Following strong criticism from industry leaders over the city’s poor infrastructure, the state cabinet has sanctioned ₹2,296 crore for major civic and road development works across five city corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).
Of the total, ₹1,241 crore will be allocated under a special scheme to create infrastructure facilities for the newly formed corporations, while ₹1,055 crore will fund projects under the Chief Minister’s Infrastructure Development Programme announced in this year’s budget. Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil said the cabinet approved an action plan to asphalt roads, repair drains, and upgrade civic amenities.
To expedite implementation, officials have been directed to invite short-term tenders and obtain administrative and tender approvals simultaneously. The move follows public and corporate outrage over Bengaluru’s deteriorating roads and civic neglect.
The development package includes resurfacing roads, improving footpaths, repairing stormwater drains, and building community halls and multipurpose structures. Specific constituency works include decorative tusker poles in Yelahanka, park upgrades in Basavanagudi, a bhajana mandira and anubhava mantapa in Vijayanagar, a primary school in Malleswaram, CCTV installation in Chamarajpet, and KR Market renovations.
In addition, the cabinet decided to seek ₹1,545 crore in flood-recovery aid from the Centre for restoring damaged infrastructure in North Karnataka and sanctioned ₹69 crore for the Cauvery IT Cell of the Stamps and Registration Department.
