Technical Issue Hits Namma Metro’s Purple Line, Disrupting Morning Commute

Metro Service Disruption

BENGALURU

Thousands of commuters were left stranded on Thursday morning after a major technical glitch disrupted train services on Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Purple Line, one of the city’s busiest routes.

According to officials, a train came to a halt at Deepanjali Nagar Metro Station around 9 a.m. due to a technical malfunction, leading to a 10-minute stoppage. Soon after, another train experienced a similar issue at Vijayanagar Station, compounding delays and causing heavy congestion across several stations during peak office hours.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) temporarily suspended services between Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station (Majestic) and Challaghatta after a train broke down between Vijayanagar and Hosahalli around 9:15 a.m. The ripple effect led to partial disruptions on the Green Line as well, as passenger traffic spilled over.

Several commuters took to social media to express frustration over the repeated breakdowns, especially during rush hours. Videos showed long queues and overcrowded platforms, with many passengers forced to find alternate modes of transport.

BMRCL officials confirmed that services up to Mysuru Road were restored by 10:15 a.m., and normal operations on the entire Purple Line resumed shortly afterward. “We regret the inconvenience caused to passengers. Technical teams acted immediately to identify and fix the fault,” said a senior BMRCL spokesperson.

The agency also advised passengers to stay updated through official announcements and social media handles for service alerts.

Notably, a similar disruption occurred on October 12 on the Yellow Line due to a technical glitch, which was later rectified. Another incident was reported earlier at Whitefield (Kadugodi) station on the Purple Line, raising concerns over the recurring technical issues affecting the city’s metro system.

BMRCL has assured that maintenance protocols are being strengthened to prevent such incidents and ensure smoother, uninterrupted services for commuters.
