Missing man’s skeleton found after two years in Bengaluru

Bengaluru

Two years after he went missing, the skeletal remains of 69-year-old Somayya from Avalahalli have been discovered in an unfinished building under the Kothanuru police station limits. The grim discovery was made on October 4.

Police confirmed the identity using a set of teeth recovered from the spot, which matched the dental records maintained at Dr Ambedkar Hospital. Investigators also found a t-shirt label, a pair of slippers, and underwear at the scene — all consistent with what Somayya was wearing when he disappeared in December 2023.

His son, Kiran Kumar, who had lodged a missing person’s complaint at the Avalahalli police station, verified that the recovered items belonged to his father.

A preliminary forensic report revealed no signs of external injuries or broken bones, ruling out foul play at this stage. Police suspect that Somayya may have taken shelter in the abandoned structure and possibly died of natural causes.

Officials have sent the remains for further forensic examination to establish the exact cause and time of death. The discovery has brought closure to the family after nearly two years of uncertainty, though questions remain about the elderly man’s final moments.
